I used to think that couples who met online were a little crazy. Not a lot crazy, just a little crazy.
That was before I made "blog friends". Those blog friends became "facebook friends" and then a few of those facebook friends have turned into real life friends. Isn't that nuts?
Like last summer-when Hannah and I drove five hours to hang out with three women we had never actually met. So much fun. Not at all crazy.
And this past weekend I had the absolute honor of hanging out with Karen and her family while they welcomed sweet Hannah Clare into the world. Hannah and I arrive about an hour before baby Hannah was born. We hung out with Mary Grace (Karen's one year old) in the living room while mama labored in the tub. Although I didn't get a chance to see Karen during labor, I could definitely hear her :) And I got to hear that sweet little baby cry through the door. The cry that said, "I'm here! No more pain! It's over and I'm here!"
The whole experience confirmed that choosing natural birth is definitely not crazy. Karen was up, walking around, and getting up and down on her own within an hour of the birth. You would have never known she just had a baby. Love that quick recovery!
Then for the next three days I got to pretend I was a postpartum doula and cook, clean, and hopefully make Karen's life easier. And watch Hannah and Mary Grace become best friends.
So no, I don't think people who meet online are crazy. Unless Karen and I are crazy. She did have a homebirth after all. But no, I don't think that's crazy either.
Nope not crazy at all. I'm sure Karen appreciated the help. Glad the girls were fast friends!!
ReplyDeleteI will never be able to thank you enough for all of your help! Never!
ReplyDeleteI wish I would have had the wits about me to have someone get you at the end!
I think Mary-Grace misses Hannah.
I don't think we're crazy at all! I'm ready to do it again!
Love this!
ReplyDeleteFabulous! I have online friends who I talk to more than any of my..."real life" friends. AND I'm going to have a homebirth. So either we're all crazy or none of us is crazy :)
ReplyDeleteI was just dreaming today of meeting all my blogger friends for a big play date! Too bad I live so far from all of you southerners!
ReplyDeleteWhat's crazy is that more of us...more people don't connect deeper these days.
ReplyDeleteI relfect on all the childhood friends I had when I was young...all the fun and zany friends (and totally loyal willing to drive hours and hours to see you kind of friends) that my Mom made and that we knitted into our lives, year after year.
We pretty much knew that after every summer we would have two or three really great new friends in our lives.
Now...don't get me started on now.
It's one of the biggest causes of spiritual dryness and sadness I see.
And, is why so many people opt for materialism these days.
Friends, good friends, are more than precious.
They are life affirming.
My BFF's are from this blog! LOL
ReplyDeleteThat is so awesome you were able to be there!!!
Incredible!
That's it, I'm moving to Florida. :)
ReplyDeleteAwwww that is sooooo cool! What a great friendship :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, MG and H look so similar in that picture! I bet if you took them to the grocery store, people would think they were twins! So cute!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I am just reading this now. What a blessing to be able to help out at such a beautiful time. I agree - I think Hannah and MG look like they could be sisters. Yeah for Blogger Friends!
ReplyDeleteWhat?? Meeting people on blogs?? Crazy!! Well... it people ever think we are nuts, then we can all be in a little institution together! Some of my very best friends are from the blogs!!! I LOVE MY BLOGGER FRIENDS!! Heck, I've gone on vacation with some before! And... Doug and I met online too - on eHarmony! :0)
ReplyDeleteLove that you were able to do this for her!!!!
ReplyDeleteLast fall we got to meet two families "in real life" who I had met online years ago. One had 4 kids, and the other had 8, and the moms arrived with all 12 kids to stay the night. We have 8, too, so that made for a mini summer camp experience :)
ReplyDeleteBy the way, my husband and I "re-met" online (our parents were friends in their 20's) back in '95 when I bought my very first Mac, signed up for AOL, and every "You've Got Mail" announcement called me down to the computer in a flurry of excitement to see if it was from Jonathan. After corresponding by email for 18 months, we got married. :)
